This practice begins with a breath awareness practice followed by several powerful breathing exercises designed to lower anxiety and soothe the mind. Once you are in a more calm state, experience a gentle movement practice to activate weak muscles and improve range of motion. You will feel relaxed and renewed from this workout and may even get an insight on how to achieve a better mindset in the upcoming day, week, or even year to come.
In ancient Yoga, goal setting is defined as a "Sankalpa". It is a Sanskrit term in yogic philosophy that refers to a heartfelt desire, a solemn vow, an intention, or a resolve to do something. It is similar to our concept of a resolution, except that it comes from even deeper within and tends to be an affirmation. It comes from the Sanskrit roots san, meaning "a connection with the highest truth," and kalpa, meaning "vow." Unlike a goal, which is a personal need to accomplish something, the concept of sankalpa turns inward to connect with the heart's highest intention. A goal can be thought of as an individual's will, but a sankalpa is a positive declaration or affirmation. One example is saying, "Loving myself is my true nature" rather than the ego-driven "I want to be thin". The sankalpa is most resonant during a state of very deep relaxation. It is believed that when the mind is relaxed, the sankalpa can be written on the subconscious and can be repeated in the morning or any time you begin your exercise for the day. How do you want to direct your attitudes today?
