In this video, we will use TheraBands and dumbbells to strengthen the muscles that attach to the scapula (shoulder blade). Some of the basic motions that are required include elevation, depression, protraction, and retraction. A chair will be used to anchor the band in order to create several of the exercises, but you can anchor your band to any item near your exercise area.
We will move from scapular motions at the SC (Sternoclavicular) Joint to the AC (Acromioclavicular ), to the GH (glenohumeral) joint in order to help these three areas move upon each other without impingement. The scapula, clavicle, and upper arm bone need to move in an orchestrated fashion so that we do not feel pain.
This workout is appropriate if you feel shoulder pain, but please limit your range of motion when necessary. Cues for modification are given throughout.
