What is Tech Neck?
This condition has become a term used to describe chronic neck pain caused by continuously straining the neck muscles while using technology like computers and phones that eventually leads to spinal changes and poor posture. We are completely tied to our phones and screens, often becoming so engrossed by them that we do not consider the long-term effects to our necks.
The head is heavy — approximately 10-12 pounds. The weight increases load as the neck becomes more flexed. Over time our necks can become arthritic as muscles become overused in some areas and underused in others. Cervical anatomy can change, resulting in herniated disks, bone spurs, joint inflammation, painful input from the central nervous system. This condition creates forward shoulders and increased curvature of the thoracic spine, as well as numbness and tingling into the upper extremities. Headaches, stiffness, and soreness can become chronic.
In this routine, we will address neck mobility and isometric exercises. As we move into the shoulders, notice how shoulder strength plays into the neck. Using Therabands and dumbbells, we will address the muscles that combat forward the forward head posture from tech neck. This therapeutic routine can be done from a chair, on top of a bed, and also standing near a wall. All levels welcome.

Every joint can pronate and supinate, as muscles are constantly resisting and collapsing under gravity to give us the power to move. When we cannot pronate efficiently, we cannot absorb enough elastic energy to propel our body to move forward.

The foot is the foundation and is influenced by other joints in the body as well as the floor. The foot, ankle and lower leg adapt to the ground by pronating and supinating, causing the knee, hip, spine, and shoulder to take on similar motions.
