This routine offers a holistic full-body approach to the treatment and prevention of lateral epicondylitis / tennis elbow from repetitive wrist and arm motions using a theraband and dumbbells.
The cause of tennis elbow stems from repeating incorrect movements of the arm and the force of hitting a ball with a racquet. This can lead to small tears in the tendon attachment at the elbow. Tennis elbow is associated with the extension of the fingers and the wrist. This is the kind of movement that allows the person to “snap” or flick the wrist, such as during a racquet swing.
We will address potential weaknesses in the trunk, hips, shoulders, elbows, wrist and hands as we gently address this condition. Since the elbow is not designed to rotate or bend sideways, it is important that the surrounding muscles are doing their job in the joints that produce these motions. You will need a set of light weights for wrist and hands and heavier dumbbells (optional) for larger muscles. A Theraband will be incorporated with several shoulder exercises as well as a sponge ball for support.
