Day 11 of the Ignite Challenge focuses on the upper body with concentric, eccentric, and isometric muscle contractions using an antagonist / opposing exercise format. As we move through the routine, we will be using dumbbells and Therabands with high repetitions. A chair will be incorporated in the routine to help stabilize nearby joints so that we can better isolate the involved joint action.
Each combination features two exercises that are complementary in nature. As one set of muscles is challenged, the antagonist, or opposing set of muscles is worked on the opposite side. This will enable us to avoid pain and fatigue in the workout so that we can maximize our time under tension without driving muscle soreness and inflammation.
