Video 412 | Post-Op Knee Recovery II (30 Minutes) with Lauren Eirk
C.P.I. Chronic Pain and Inflammation • 13-Mar-2023
This is a follow-up video to "Post-Op Knee Recovery #410. Remember that regaining your range of motion and strength after total knee replacement or hip surgery is critical to regaining your ability to do the things that are important to you. Exercising has multiple benefits including: reducing stiffness, maintaining flexibility, improving muscle strength, and preventing blood clots.
It is often difficult for people to know what to do post-surgery to heal their knee joint. These exercises are designed to help you in the early recovery stages, but are general in nature. Always check with your doctor for your particular case. You will need a small sponge ball for resistance, a chair and a yoga block or blanket.
I will be domonstrating some exercises on the ground as well as in standing to progress the exercises from "Post Op Knee Recovery". This routine incorporates the foot and ankle's influence to the knee. We will be progressing multi-joint exercises such as the squat as well. It is important to learn to observe your limitations and not push too hard. Forcing the knee to straighten or bend is not adviseable. It will take time to recover, and resolve pain / inflammation from muscle weakness. Since many of the muscles that cross the knee also attach at the hip, we will also incorporate some hip isometrics as well.
This therapeutic routine can also be helpful for chronic hip pain and instability. I am taking a full body approach, with foot, ankle, knee, hip and spinal related exercises. Enjoy lots of modifications to make the exercises work for you.
